Another Sunday

Origin Story

Some lessons arrive only after time has passed. As children, we move through life believing love will always be waiting. We take for granted the people who have loved us all along. Only later do we understand that the ordinary moments were the extraordinary ones.

Memories have a gentle way of returning us to those places. A familiar room. A foldout couch. A warm afternoon in Florida. Laughter in Pennsylvania. Moments that once felt small but now echo with meaning. Within those memories lives not only love, but the quiet longing to have loved more boldly. Yet this story does not belong to regret. It belongs to what regret can become.

It is the story of choosing to love while there is still time. Of letting children witness tenderness instead of silence, gratitude instead of assumption, presence instead of postponement. It is the belief that every act of love we offer our parents quietly teaches our children how to carry that love forward. Some gifts can only be given after we have grown wise enough to recognize them. This is how we honor that gift.

Another Sunday

By Yenifer Aponte, Listener Poet

There was a time
I believed there would always be another Sunday,
another occasion to say I love you.
Youth mistakes tomorrow for a promise.

The mirror gave me lines.
The patience to linger.
The wisdom to listen.

When your grandparents speak,
listen.
Their words are seeds
slipped into your pockets.
You may not know their worth today,
but one day
they will bloom.

Love them now
while their eyes still shine
like lanterns in the dusk
lighting the path
you have yet to walk.

If your heart carries yesterday,
set it down gently.
Regret was never meant
to be your home.

Let it become
another visit,
another embrace,
another I love you.

For love has never asked us
to be perfect.
