Walk With Me

Origin Story

With her background in counseling and psychology, she works to bring people together and support patients. She has always worked with non-profits, but her husband was in the for-profit sector and his work often moved them around the country.

When she and her husband lived in New Jersey, she answered an ad in a newspaper for the American Cancer Society. Her father-in-law’s struggle with leukemia made the work personal: “Maybe this is my calling.” Despite the hurricane that swirled around outside during her first interview, she joined ACS. She has found that it is “not just a job. It’s more of a calling,” she said. “More of a family.” She continues to connect with colleagues and community members, calling them “just great people, good hearts, all working together.” She said, “There’s something about ACS… I don’t struggle at all to keep going – it’s truly a job I love doing.”

Outside work, she might be painting with watercolors or acrylics, or can be found with her family outdoors, or reading. She draws a lot of her strength in solitary moments.

Walk With Me

By Elizabeth Pringle, Listener Poet

The work that we do together
Takes a lot
There are children
And families suffering
The cases don’t go away
The work continues
Through the losses
We go on
Strength together
We go on

Walk with me
Through the woods
The leaves falling
The air bright
This gift of our world
Take a breath
Let in the quiet and peace
And stand solid
Like a solitary truck
in an open field
Vast horizon all around
The firm earth below
The sky lifting us
Take a moment
To be here

Keep busy, keep laughing
There’s so much sickness and death
Breath out and let go
Breath in and let out a laugh
Let it lift and heal you
