Caregiver's Notes

“Caregiver’s Notes” a poem

After watching her daughter speak at the Mayo Clinic Conference about her experiences with the healthcare industry, this poemee came to talk with me.

She was very proud of her daughter and has hopes for “a bright future that’s as pain free as possible,” where her daughter “has enough energy to be who she is.” When I asked what advice she has for others in similar situations, she spoke this poem to me.

Caregiver’s Notes

Question the specialists

keep searching, don’t settle.

Stay positive and take care

of yourself. Find forms of joy

however you can: go jogging or

walk the dogs, try to spend

time alone. Find quiet, but

if quiet’s too loud, buy a ticket

to the Minnesota Orchestra.

Above all, give your

unbending, unending love.
