Creative Writing at the University of Houston College of Medicine

LaShaune P. Johnson, PhD, a Clinical Professor at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston and Certified Listener Poet Cohort 2 alum, has been informally involved with a unique collaboration. This collaborative effort between the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine, Inprint Narrative & Lyric Health Fellows, and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences highlights the powerful intersection of the arts and healthcare.

In April 2026, she more formally accepted the Director position. As Director, she will work closely with the incoming poets who will be embedded in the program. She also hopes to offer Listener Poet sessions for student doctors.

On May 11, 2026, the community celebrated the end of the school year with a release of a folio. Attendees experienced a collection of readings and recitations from emerging voices across our community, including students, faculty, staff, and local contributors.
