Latasha Drax

Latasha Drax is a self-published poet and writer from Brooklyn, New York.

Her first venture into self-publication was with Fruit of My Womb, featuring her signature poem “Nine Lives: Kat’s Story.” Other self-publications include Metamorphosis of Rhythm and a chapbook, Love Bears All. Her poetry and prose appear in A Second Helping of Gumbo for the Soul: More Liberating Stories of Memories to Inspire Females of Color, Iron City Magazine: Issue 6, and other publications. “A Piece of Mind, a Poetry Mixtape,” is a preview of her forthcoming poetry collection Pandemonium. In November 2024, “Brooklyn Strong,” her animated video poem, was exhibited at the Film and Video Poetry Symposium during its live screening in Los Angeles, CA.

Latasha uses her poetic voice for creative expression, advocacy, and awareness of social injustices. At 17, she was published in the prison magazine, Rikers Review, and most recently has mentored incarcerated creative writers and visual artists. In addition to being a proud Certified Listener Poet, Latasha is a licensed secondary English teacher and adult ESL instructor. Her favorite pastimes include traveling, reading, listening and dreaming of the next big thing.
