Alumni Leigh Finnegan-Hosey, Certified Listener Poet Cohort 9, was invited to share their poetry in the 2026 VCU Georgianne Ginder Poetry and Prose Celebration, which recognizes the healing power of poetry in healthcare.
Their poem, "We Held You in Time," is an elegy to a beloved NICU baby whose family Leigh had the privilege of serving in her role as chaplain. Although appreciated by the child’s family, this poem was employed as a therapeutic tool to process the grief of bearing witness to love and loss. It was displayed publicly at VCU Health, alongside poetry from other team members, and will be published in a forthcoming anthology.
