Certified Listener Poet,
Cohort 15 Summer 2026
Steve Schwartz, from Milwaukee, works as a multidisciplinary artist and organizer in Washington, DC. Weaving experiences from a 25-year career in labor and political organizing with the constant, direct revelation of an active poetry, visual art and meditation practice, he understands listening as a foundational healing practice. Steve hopes to bring Listener Poet practices into power-building and organizing spaces, corroding hierarchy and oppression along the way. As a woodland hipster, he spends the rest of (most) his time cooking, tending small dogs, and enjoying life on a bicycle.
