Certified Listener Poet,
Cohort 9 Fall 2024

Sibihan Lawrence, ProfGCE, MA, is a London-born Performance Poet, Theatre Maker, Arts Education Specialist, staunch Youth Empowerment Advocate, and a Storyteller. She is currently undertaking a Theatre and Performance PhD. Her research interests lie in exploring Black British Theatre and Performance, and “Black voice” as sites of healing and emancipation.

In her latest anthology, entitled Tales From My Mother’s Kitchen, she investigates Black British postcolonial enclaves in relation to the skillful subverting of social injustice often encountered within diverse communal spaces. She analyzes both the beauty and precarity of Black life, communicated through what she describes as “radical rhyme.”

She is also a Certified Listener Poet – Cohort 9! She believes that becoming a Listener Poet has exponentially revolutionized her practice.
