Certified Listener Poet,
Cohort 14 Spring 2026
Patrick Horner is a Canadian poet, engineer, and cultural organizer based in Calgary, Alberta, and a Cohort 14 alumnus of the Certified Listener Poet program. He is the author of Refugia, a poetic novel published by the University of Calgary Press in 2022, and his poetry and short fiction have appeared in publications internationally. He is also co-director of the Nature & Culture International Poetry Film Festival, which brings together poets, filmmakers, and artists through events in Canada and Scandinavia. Patrick has also led creative writing workshops in community centers, correctional facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and addiction recovery programs.
Patrick is interested in the relationship between the imaginative and physical worlds, and in the ways poetry can be useful beyond the page. He believes poetry can help build grassroots community, create meaningful connections, and support small collaborative initiatives. As a Listener Poet, he hopes to approach each conversation with curiosity and care, and to create work that feels recognizable and true to the person sharing their story.
