Maxwell Nanes

Max Nanes holds a bachelor of arts degree in English with an emphasis on creative writing and pursued medical school later as part of a non-traditional path towards becoming a physician. After graduating from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, Max practiced as an emergency physician for many years until deciding to have a fresh start in their career and take on a new challenge.

In 2022, Max retired from the emergency room and went on to train in hospice and palliative medicine in their adopted hometown of Milwaukee, WI. Max currently splits their time as a medical director for home hospice teams and as an inpatient consultant in palliative medicine.

Max was the creator, co-host, and producer of the Poor Historians Podcast which enjoyed a multi-year run of success, focusing on finding humor in stories about medical history. Max is an avid video gamer and woodworking enthusiast in their spare time as well.
