Dr. Derouin is an accomplished nurse educator, dual-certified pediatric nurse practitioner and healthpolicy leader with over 30 years of experience. She currently serves as the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs at the Duke University School of Nursing (DUSON). She holds appointments at Duke Division of Family Medicine & Community Health, Duke Global Health Institute. She’s a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the National League of Nurses and a graduate of the Good Listener Poet Fellowship.
Dr. Derouin is an expert in adolescent healthcare, serving on state and national task forces addressing pediatric, adolescent, and mental healthcare issues. She established the first pediatric mental health specialty program for APRNs in the US and has served as a consultant for the NAPNAP Cares, an online educational platform for nurses to gain knowledge on pediatric mental health conditions.
As a leader, she serves on the Executive Steering committee for the Duke-Johnson & Johnson Advanced Practice Providers Leadership Institute and has served on executive boards for state and national professional organizations. She has published more than 80 peer-reviewed papers and currently serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal of Pediatric Healthcare. She is an award-winning nurse educator and frequent collaborator with interprofessional colleagues in the US and around the world.
